About The Event
Up to four volunteers needed to help create hardened campsites, finish the trail to outhouse, close excess trails, and remove a number of downed trees by crosscut saw. The work requires good physical condition and an interest in learning basic trail/campsite maintenance techniques. Volunteers will use hand tools and natural materials such as logs and beach gravel to create durable camping surfaces, restore vegetation, and prevent erosion. Crosscut saws will be used to remove trees toppled during a 2018 wind event.
- Roundtrip transportation will be provided by Forest Service vessel for volunteers (must be 18 years or older to ride on the vessel and must provide proof of a Covid-19 Vaccination record card or results of a negative Covid-19 test within 72 hrs of mission).
- Participants will work under volunteer agreement with the Chugach National Forest and be provided all tools, materials, and personal protective equipment. Safety training will be provided.
- Best practices will be followed to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
- Food and camping gear are not provided.
- Volunteers must be capable of camping and traveling in bear habitat, walking on uneven surfaces, carrying tools and gravel, and working in cool and rainy conditions.
